The Longyan Guanzaishan Airport is an airport serving the city of Longyan, in the Fujian Province, China. It is located in Liancheng County - one of the seven districts of Fujian - and was formerly called Liancheng Airport. Alternate names of the airport include Yuan Xiang Guanzhi Airport, and even Air Citylink Airport. Opened in 2004, the airport was expanded in 2010 to handle as much as 140,000 passengers, on top of 800 tonnes of cargo, although passenger traffic only lies steady at the 15,000 level. Longyan Guanzaishan Airport is a public cum military airport, both administered by the local government of Longyan and the Air Force.

The Longyan Guanzaishan Airport is found in the city of Longyan, in the Fujian Province of China. Longyan is a prefecture-level city in South-Western Fujian province, bordering Guangdong to the south and Jiangxi to the west. Unlike many Chinese cities, the forest coverage of Longyan reaches an unusually high 77.9 percent, an unparalleled level in the Fujian province and almost everywhere in China. This gives Longyan a lush forest scene that has been their base for tourism, along with other attractions.

Tulou (Earth Houses) – Although quite a trip from the city centre of Longyan, the Tulou or Earth Houses are the most famous tourist attraction in the area. Visitors to Longyan dare not miss this, since these houses are on to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Made by the Hakka people (Hakka translates to “guest”), the Earth Houses were originally established by refugees who fled from one of Northern China’s wars several hundred years ago. These people have retained their own dialects and customs, and it shows in the houses that they have created. The houses can accommodate extended families, and are built to be easily defended.

Guanzhai Mountain – Covering an area of 47mi2, Guanzhai Mountain is a beautiful combination of mountains, lakes and rivers, caves and temples that offer a panoramic view of villages amongst the green fields toward the west, and high cliffs toward the east. Lingzhi Peak is its main peak, measuring 2,168 feet in height while Wulao Peak to the southwest rises close to Lingzhi Peak. There is a crevasse between the two peaks, called “Yi Xian Tian” (a gleam of sky). Moreover, the mountains have attracted a number of tourists to leave a great number of precious calligraphies and paintings all inspired by the peaks. Today, more and more visitors come here for activities such as mountain hiking, sightseeing, or just enjoying the view. Sometimes, tourists try and explore the hidden lakes and lagoons in the area, although they bring locals with them.

Villages in Longyan – The villages in Longyan, are particularly picturesque, especially when standing on an elevated point. Cleverly organised amongst rice paddies, the settlements show how the Chinese people of Longyan have lived with what they have while making it beautiful. A private taxi driver may suggest an itinerary as to where to go, although be careful and always bring a guide just in case. Don’t forget to take pictures.

Gastronomy in Longyan – Although the city centre is filled with fast food restaurant chains, tourists may still find local restaurants that sell cheap food which are authentically Chinese. Mixed vegetables, meats, and poultry are all served here with sweet sauces and sticky rice.

How to get around within Longyan

The city centre is busy and travellers may easily find ways as to how to travel and transfer from destination to destination. Buses, taxi cabs, and motorcycle ‘tuk-tuks’ are readily available and can be hailed almost everywhere; but if planning on going out of the city, make sure to set and schedule taxi cabs or rent a private vehicle to take you to your destination as transport modes are irregular in these areas.
