Alice Springs airport departure information

On the day that you’re travelling from Alice Springs to Ayers Rock, make sure that you arrive at the airport at least 30-60 minutes before your flight, and also that you have identifying information with you (a driver’s licence or passport, for example).

The airport in Alice Springs is around 15km from the city centre, and the drive takes approximately 15 minutes. To get to the airport you can choose to drive yourself, take a taxi (for around $30), hire a chauffeur transfer, or take the Alice Springs Airport Shuttle.

Once you’re arrive at the airport and are waiting for your flight to Ayers Rock from Alice Springs, you can while away the time browsing at the News Travels or Australian Way stores, or buy a snack from the on-site cafeteria, Cafe Terra Rosa. The terminal also has toilets and a baby change room, plus a post box, chilled water fountains, two ATMs, and free WiFi throughout the building.

After travelling to Ayers Rock from Alice Springs, you can purchase some food or drink from the airport cafe or pick up a souvenir from the retail outlet – just keep in mind that since the Ayers Rock airport is very small, these services are not available at all hours of the day and night. The terminal does provide WiFi and a post box though, and there are also bathrooms and baby care rooms.

To get to your accommodation location in the Yulara centre/resort near Ayers Rock, you have a couple of choices. You can rent a hire car, or book a seat on a complimentary shuttle bus that runs between the airport and the Ayers Rock Resort where all of the area’s accommodation is located. Unfortunately there are no taxis available in Ayers Rock, so it often pays to organise transport before you arrive at the airport.

While the average price for a meal from an inexpensive restaurant in Alice Springs is $20, you’ll typically find that the average can be higher in Ayers Rock due to its remote location and small number of venues. You may pay up to $90 for a meal at a high-end restaurant.
