Charming visit!
We love the Petite Auberge! It is filled with rustic charm and the staff is amazing, kind, and helpful. We had visited before as a couple, and came again as a family. We loved having a fireplace in the bedrooms for chilly nights, and the there are many lovely hang out spots downstairs and at the White Swan, where we also enjoyed breakfast and evening snacks and drinks. The location is great and we enjoyed walking to many attractions. If you are looking for charm and connection, this is the place for you!

Wrong choice in San Fran
Went to have one night in San Fran and stayed here. Big mistake! Absolutely freezing and no heat. They provide a space heater which did not do the job and was in my opinion very dangerous. I used it and worried all night but still had to sleep in 2 pairs of sweats, 2 sweatshirts and a down coat. The bed itself was freezing. They were not honest about turning the heat off for the summer and sent a maintenace man who had no clue and finally he had to admit it was not hooked up. Then they said that i turned down the space heater which i never did. Rough night! My advice is to get a modern hotel with central heating and air.

Petite Auberge review
Sharing honest feedback here. Beautiful, clean and classy room and hotel overall. Authentic French style decor which was really beautiful. Wonderful ambience in dining room. Friendly and co-operative staff who allow you to store your luggage even without checking in the room. Great location.
For the price, the room could have been a little bigger and breakfast could have been slightly better with more hot dishes. They have Nibble and Wine in the evenings but it was practically impossible to attend since you are busy outside exploring different places.

Old world charm in SF!
Really charming small hotel - great staff, excellent location! Parking was perfect with the valet. Wine and cheese after a day of sightseeing was a real nice touch. Breakfast was great - steel cut oatmeal, yogurt, pastries, excellent coffee and tea. In room fireplace was just icing on a really nice cake!

This hotel, though nice, is a bit frayed around the edges: its wallpaper is somewhat old and difficult to clean, and the window edges need painting. Some of the furniture is in poor condition. It is at the top of a hill and has several entrance steps to the hotel itself. A cable car can take you up the hill, on a schedule. The Petite Auberge is part of a two-part hotel: the White Swan sister hotel is the other part which has a more full-time desk clerk who usually tries to service both parts.) Hot water was not available when I was there. The joint hotel does provide breakfast but not the depicted French croissants--bear claws, yes. Access to the hotel is by key card once you get one. The area around the hotel is nice, being near San Francisco's main square.
