A little off the beaten track, but well worth it.
Highlights
Peaceful Setting: The quiet ambiance was a standout feature, complemented by the local wildlife and the picturesque surroundings of mixed-use farmland and forests.
Exceptional Service and Design: The service was superb, and the lodge's thoughtful, tasteful design was evident throughout, enhanced by lovely artwork in the reception and restaurant areas.
Restaurant Experience: The dining experience was exceptional. While not inexpensive, each meal was served promptly, presented beautifully, and incredibly flavorful.
Suggestions for Improvement
Set Menu Flexibility: The set menu concept works well, but we found that by the time we reached the final course, we couldn’t manage dessert and had to skip it. Offering a more flexible option for guests who prefer fewer courses would be a welcome addition.
Maintenance Needs: Some minor wear and tear was noticeable, requiring attention. While these issues didn’t detract significantly from our stay, addressing them would enhance the overall experience.
Fly Screens: Adding fly screens to the sliding doors would be a practical improvement, particularly given the countryside location.
Additional Notes
The lodge is situated off the beaten track, with the final 10 kilometers of the approach road being unsealed. While this may not appeal to everyone, we felt it added to the charm and sense of seclusion.
We’ve noticed some recent negative reviews of Woodhouse Mountain Lodge. Given the higher-end pricing, it’s natural that expectations are elevated. However, our experience was overwhelmingly positive, and we felt it offered excellent value for the quality provided.

Extremely disappointing stay.
Meals were included in the cost of our stay. The fixed menu was limited however, the service and food quality was extremely disappointing. We're not fussy eaters, however, I've had higher quality meals locally. Sides were charged extra, I feel this is questionable given what was served as part of the main. We ordered the vegetables and potatoe skins. The vegetables saved the entire meal. The potato skins were terrible. Entrees and Desserts were ok, although the pickle on my entree were unpleasant and over powered the parfait.
No one asked if we would like coffees etc after dinner.
I had set my sights on their house cocktail before dinner but was told they were missing an ingredient so I just stuck to my soda, lime and bitters. It was pretty undrinkable and had I realised it would cost $12 I would have sent it back. My birthday drink ended up as water as I don't drink wine.
Breakfast was better, but lacked the attention one expects. The included coffee was ok but just as with dinner, no one asked if we would like another drink.
We left feeling rather let down. Definitely a birthday treat gone wrong. Definitely will NOT return as there are better places to stay, with better service and food. Sorry to say I cannot recommend staying here.
We both felt that the minimum was supplied in order for them to fulfill their obligation to complete the requirements of your booking.
