Well Looked After

Not the most promising of streets and steep steps up to the rooms. Once in the rooms are clean and spacious. A short walk from the station and then quickly into the tourist area so convenient. Maria was very helpful and put on a much enjoyed breakfast. A well placed and priced location.

Outstanding traditional and cheap bed and breakfast

Firstly let me say this is one of my favourite places I’ve stayed at across Europe. The host Ria is a fabulous example of exceptional hospitality. Nothing was too much for her and to have her suggesting every morning what to do made our trip to Amsterdam that bit more special. Sometimes googling things to do leads you to boring tourist traps. Here is my review of the place
1. You are in the Center of Amsterdam which makes this accomodation exceptional. You are a 8 minute walk from central station. Then accomodation is easy to find. It is on the outer fringe of the red light district but this does not mean it’s ‘dodgy’. The street the b&b was on was filled with beautiful restaurants and desert places. It’s actually in the heart of Amsterdam.
2. The breakfast each morning was wonderful. Ria gives you an option between pancakes, omelet’s, scrambled eggs and yoghurt + fruit. There is also additional meats on the table and fresh bread. The breakfast room is available all day for you to make coffee and tea. It was perfect
3. The rooms were spacious and clean. There is everything you need: great hairdryer, many power points, extra blankets and pillow options, fabulous shower water pressure and space for many suitcases as places to hang clothes (plus clothes hanger).
4. If you can, book the place through the direct website. When you book through bookings.com and other external sites the hosts lose a lot of income and a big % of the room price goes to these big companies. Seeing as City Breaks is a locally owned business just run by Ria herself it would be so much better in my opinion to have the money go to her rather than big businesses. So book on her direct webpage :)
5. I could not speak higher of Ria. From her warm welcome to her insistence in carrying our suitcases up the stairs she went above and beyond. I love staying in local properties as you get such a better feel of the local country. Plus it is priceless to have someone help you plan your day trips each day.
6. The property does have steep stairs. But they are manageable. If you have very bad knees maybe don’t stay here but keep in mind steep stairs are standard across all Amsterdam properties. As I said before Ria will take your suitcase to the room so you don’t have to worry about that.!

The host - Ria, is one of the most attentive and incredibly welcoming owner

Hidden gem right on the heart

If you want a personal touch right in the heart of Amsterdam, the come and stay here. Ria the owner is so welcoming. There are only 2 rooms up a steep flight of stairs, but they are lovingly decorated, super comfortable with lots of extras.. The homemade breakfast is superb. We had the room at the back, a little noisy but that was quickly fixed by using the earplugs supplied. Great little find

Great location and good value for money. Lovely host and cat!

Would definitely stay again. I picked City Break mostly because of the convenient location to the train station, since we were in Amsterdam for a concert and would be travelling. Rooms were clean and had lots of nice touches; toiletries, snacks and so on. Breakfast was great, and Ria, the host, chatted to us for a while and introduced us to her cat, Ming Ming.
All in all, a great experience and I would happily recommend it to anyone else.
