Friendly business hotel right next to station
The front desk staff were helpful, although they spoke limited English- I was able to get by with Japanese. When we were checking in we received complimentary bread, a drink, and also got a can of beer from a prize-draw raffle, which was a fun surprise. The front desk staff were also helpful with arranging for luggage delivery back to the airport for an extra bag we had, through the Yamato "kuroneko" takyubin service (our stuff got there okay so all of that worked out).
Our room was effectively a single room with a "semi-double" bed set up for two people, which was fine for us. It was nice and bright during the day with the windows- I'm not a vampire so I consider that a good thing. There was also the usual TV and small refrigerator. The bathroom was the typical standard unit bath, with soap provided. We didn't have any issues with the room, things were clean, although I think that the A/C was a little fiddly, but it was also particularly hot when we were there.
The manga library and vending machine were on the floor we were on. I can't comment on the manga selection since I didn't get a chance to look at it, but they're all in Japanese. Good chance to practice some reading maybe, without having to go to Book Off or a manga cafe?
While Kakegawa isn't a major city, there's a surprising amount of stuff to do in the area, some of which is within walking distance from the hotel. The castle is pretty much straight down one street, and Honjin dori- an eclectic little side street with mini-izakaya-style bar/restaurants- was also close. There are also a few restaurants and izakaya in the same area as the hotel- so there's going to be somewhere open to eat at night.
We opted to include breakfast in the morning- which was buffet-style at a mini-restaurant next door on the second floor. The variety was good- rice, bread, fish, sausage, salad- as well as tea, iced coffee, and juice. After we checked out, we had the front desk hold our bags for a bit while we went to one of Kakegawa's more well-known attractions, Kachouen. We were also able to walk to Kachouen- it was about a mile straight south of the station.
Overall, while the room and amenities are rather much in the class of business hotel, we found Terminal Hotel to be perfectly suitable for us on our trip, and we found Kakegawa overall to be a nice town. We would stay here again.
