Romantic place

Right at the river Elbe bicycle track in Bertingen ist the location of this hotel. Great place to stay if you do the track. They offer small and simple cottages fully equipped with tv, bathroom for a small price. Food at the restaurant is good. Would stay there again anytime

overcharged for overnight stays, poor breakfast offer, bad-tempered staff

We stayed at La Porte as a family at Pentecost 2024. Breakfast was a disaster - carelessly thrown food from the supermarket and if something was missing, it was not replaced. The staff were completely overwhelmed preparing the tables for the next guests - after waiting 10 minutes, we took over ourselves. The rooms were not cleaned. We made the mistake of eating dinner in the restaurant. The food came much too late and was much too expensive for this poor quality, the service was bad-tempered. When we left, we were charged a higher price than was on offer. Unfortunately, we only realized this when we got home and asked for a refund. In an absolutely disrespectful manner, we were made to understand that we should be satisfied with a voucher. But: What do we want with vouchers if we are never going to subject ourselves to this "adventure" again?

I'd love to come back next year.

There is a clear improvement in the food and service compared to last year. I find the clean rooms and the fly screens on the windows very practical. The quiet and beautiful location in the middle of the forest is a clear added value.

Rarely experienced something like this

What we experienced here was amazing! But in a bad way. We went out to eat on the first evening after arriving. Drinks came quickly. As we had 3 children with us, we ordered the children's meals first, which came after a full hour, plus cold chips for the children. Even the best chef couldn't explain to you what took an hour. Then we got the bill, the next day we had to pay more because we were given the wrong bill. In some ways understandable but still difficult.
Then the next day: We went with the whole family (10 people). The main courses came after a full 55 minutes, some of them cold and not to mention the culinary delight.
After asking twice whether we could have ketchup and mayo with the chips, which were far too dry and cold, the waiter yelled at us. At the end a waiter came and apologized to us, the only one in the shop who understood what was wrong, despite the fact that there are 3 chefs and 4 people in service, something like that should never happen, especially not with the prices they charge for ready-made pasta with pesto, for example, 17.90 is a disgrace, inflation is all well and good, but that is too much.
The waiters then kept saying that they had just reopened, but with 10 dishes on the menu that are not difficult to serve, everything should go much faster, or at least taste good.
Well, Laporte was actually our go-to person when we visited our family, but that won't be the case anymore.
I won't even start on the holiday home.
I'm in the industry myself, if you need tips to get the shop running at least somewhat, get in touch.
Thanks for the below-average stay.

A nice and beautiful stay over night

We arrived with the bike and got a nice, clean and well equipped room in a nice wooden lock cabin. The food was excellent and worth every cent. Service was very friendly and very quickly served. We could lock our bikes safely in a separate house.
Thanks for this nice experience.
