Cancun is a city in Northeast coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, and is a major world-renowned tourist destination. Cancun is also known for its beautiful turquoise waters and fine white beaches. Also visit Isla Contoy that rests about 30km north of Isla Mujeres and do some bird watching. Aside from its natural beauty, the island is also considered the most important nesting place for sea birds in the Mexican Caribbean with over 150 different species. Go scuba diving and explore the beauty of the marine world below. Cruise along the calm lagoon while feasting on steak and lobster and marvelling the sunset, or rent a yacht. For the more adventurous types, you can experience Cancun in a self-drive jeep safari and grab the chance to swim or snorkel in underground caves, explore Mayan ruins, and visit a jungle reserve. You can also try the zip line, or swim with sharks. Never worry about places to drink, dine, and shop as these places litter the whole area for the ultimate vacation experience.
How to get around within Cancun
Cancun is very easy to navigate. Located in the south is the airport, in the north is the city, and in between on the stretch of land between the sea and the Nichupte lagoon are hotels, beaches, and bars, referred to as the hotel zone of Zona Hotelera. Get around by bus. It is the most preferred mode of transportation in Cancun as they are cheap and come frequently. There are also plenty of taxis. They can be pretty expensive for the hotel zone and the airport, but cheap in the downtown area where the residents live. When trying to explore the area by car, make sure that when you pick up a rental, all the lights are working to avoid being pulled over by policemen.
How to get there
Reach Cancun via plane by going through Cancun International Airport which lies 10km from the hotel strip and 16km southwest of downtown. Major air carriers from North, Central, and South America service Cancun. Happy Shuttle Cancun is the cheapest airport shuttle in the place. You can either share the shuttle with people arriving at the same time as you to your hotel to keep the cost down, or hire a private shuttle and hire a driver to take you to your hotel. Shuttle vans are always available at the airport. The main bus station is at Calle Pino, northwest of the roundabout at Av Tulum & Av Uxmal in downtown. There are several bus companies operating to and from Cancun and other places in Mexico.
