Kotoka International Airport is a public and military airport operated by the Ghana Airports Company Ltd. It serves the city of Accra, and is the hub for several major airlines including Africa World Airlines, Antrak Air, Arik Air, and Starbow Airlines. Kotoka International Airport takes its name from Lieutenant General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka, who was a member of the ruling National Liberation Council. He was killed in an abortive coup attempt at a location which is now the forecourt of the airport. The airport consists of two passenger terminals, with one primarily serving domestic and regional operators and the other serving international long haul operators.

National Museum of Ghana – The National Museum of Ghana is the largest and the oldest of the six museums under the administration of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board. It is located within the city of Accra, and is considered as one of the most important exhibits of the history of the country. It has three main galleries, one dealing with Ghana's past, one with the country’s traditions, and the other with local arts and culture. The galleries present exhibits on prehistoric Africa, sculptures and paintings from contemporary artists, and samples of traditional attire, local musical instruments, tribal artefacts, and many others.

Cape Coast Castle – The Cape Coast Castle is one of about forty slave castles or large commercial forts that were built on the Gold Coast of West Africa, or Ghana of the present day. It is built by European traders, originally by the Swedes for trade in timber and gold, but later used in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. They were used to hold slaves before being loaded on to ships and sold in the Americas, especially the Caribbean. It is also considered as the “gate of no return” – the last stop before crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Although with a depressing history that is focused on the slave trade, the 'castle' still is an important piece of architecture, and has been visited by various diplomats from other countries, tourists, and local enthusiasts.

Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum – A memorial and an iconic architecture in Accra, the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum is a memorial park and the final resting place of Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana. He was the leader of the country and its predecessor state, the Gold Coast, from 1951 through 1966. His official presidency started in July 1960, ending in February 1966. He also was the first Prime minister of Ghana, and the first Prime minister of the Gold Coast.

How to get around within Accra

The main mode of transport in Accra for visitors is through rental cars with drivers. Many tour companies rent out cars, minivans, 4WDs in Accra, from the airport or through the city centre. Affordable options are very much available, and drivers for hire are aplenty here. Taxis can also be considered as alternatives and can be flagged down from the streets, although they are not metered and the charging system is at the discretion of the drivers. They may give prices based on the distance, the nature of the road, the heaviness of local traffic, and sometimes even a traveller's looks. For cheaper yet more grounded alternatives, travellers may try the Trotro, which are crowded minivans and buses that act as the city's public transit system. They are affordable and quite slow, but they cover most of the routes within the city. Other than the above-mentioned, travellers may also walk within the main circuit of the city centre.
