Discover Don Mueang

Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport (DMK) is one of two international airports, along with Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), that serve the Thai capital of Bangkok. Having been established as far back as 1914, this is one of Thailand’s first airports, and has been functioning as a commercial hub for over 50 years. Closed, and then reopened in 2006, the Don Muang Airport now handles both domestic flights and international routes throughout Asia, and is the operating base for several low cost airlines.

There are a decent range of facilities at Don Muang, with a couple of banks, several ATMs, and currency exchange services to see to any monetary needs. For communication, you’ll find that there is free WiFi, public telephones, and a post office. There aren’t a huge selection of shops, but you can find a few stores selling travel goods, reading materials, and cosmetic goods. If you’re hungry, there are a few restaurants, and if you’re feeling a little peaky, there’s a 24 hour medical centre within the airport. Don Muang also has disabled facilities, and there are information counters, and business amenities, including a few conference rooms.

There aren’t any airlines flying from Australia directly into this airport, but there will be connecting routes offered with Scoot, AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Lion Metari, Thai AirAsia X, and Tigerair.

Travel Information

· Use Skyscanner’s car hire search tool to reserve your vehicle in advance and save yourself some money. Otherwise, you can book one with the car rental companies within the Arrivals Terminal of Don Muang Airport. The driving directions are simple: get onto the Don Muang Toll Way and then merge onto Phayathai Road to get into the centre of town. The drive should take you between 30 and 40 minutes.

· You can take a train from the station opposite the airport, and get into central Bangkok in under and hour for a fare of about 50THB ($2).

· Buses leave every 20 minutes up until 11:30pm, and the prices are very reasonable. Expect a fare to come to around 25THB ($1). If you’re travelling with family, it might be more convenient to book a private airport transfer through our site, and you can be met outside the terminals when you arrive.

· A taxi into the centre of town should come to around 400THB ($15) depending on where in the city you are going. In light traffic, the journey should only take a half hour, but this can increase substantially during peak commute times.
