Drops FAQs

We’re excited to launch Drops as a Skyscanner app-only feature, which means you can only access Drops by downloading our app! Once you have downloaded the app and logged in, you will be able to see a collection of flights that have dropped in price by at least 20% that day compared to the last 7 days. This collection of flights is curated based on what other travellers have been searching, so we know these are desirable routes! Flight prices can fluctuate, so when we find a Drop is no longer available or has increased in price, we’ll no longer display it as a Drop.

We scan millions of flights every few hours to find the ones that fit a specific criteria.

  • We track flight prices over a period of 7 days to find the lowest price point in that period.

  • We only display price drops that have decreased by 20% or more than a flight’s lowest price point seen in the last 7 days.

  • We also apply filters to ensure the Drops we present to you are relevant and engaging. For example, we include flight routes and itineraries that we know from our data are popular with other travellers, so we can be sure the flights are desirable!

That’s how we know Drops are deals worth bagging and stowing. The fares we display are for a return journey for one traveller on an economy flight. Prices and availability are subject to change and some deals may expire.

We’re not in the business of pressure tactics - just because we’ve marked a flight as a ‘Drop’, it doesn’t mean you need to book it then and there! We understand that booking travel is a process, and you may want to compare other flights around the same time. But we do want you to grab a deal! And since we’ve identified the flight as a ‘Drop’, we are confident the specific flight is the lowest price it’s been compared to the last 7 days on the Skyscanner site. Flight prices fluctuate all the time, so you may want to consider how long it will stick around for. If you want to book the Drop, you can go ahead and book it like you would any other flight on Skyscanner.

When you save a Drop it will be stowed safely in your ‘Saved’ list. Just head to the bottom panel of the app and look for the heart. Currently, Drops will look like any other flight you have favourited in your Saved list and won’t specifically called out as a ‘Drop’. Please keep in mind that flight prices are continuously fluctuating, so the Drop you originally saved might not always remain the price you saved it at.

We have a lot of criteria in place to make sure we are surfacing flight price-drops that are significant. Not all airports have a sufficient number of flights available every day to meet our criteria to be a Drop. Keep looking though, that’s not to say you’ll always see a limited amount of Drops! We also recommend changing the Drops you see to a larger or nearby airport, so you can see more Drops to different destinations.

Skyscanner searches millions of flights all the time to find you the best prices. Like all flights, hotels and car hire across Skyscanner, we find cheap flight prices from all major airlines and travel agents, and find the cheapest tickets to all your favourite destinations which means prices are available elsewhere, but Drops curates those prices, showing you when there has been a significant change in price.

We’re scanning millions of flights to make sure we’re only displaying price drops that have decreased by 20% or more than a flight’s lowest price point seen in the last 7 days. This means that it is the cheapest flight price we’ve seen for a specific itinerary and provider. This does mean, however, that other providers may be cheaper for a similar route. Keep in mind that all airline providers offer different services (for example, some airlines provide checked luggage included in the price) so it’s important to weigh up your personal preferences before booking.
